HalloVista 2018 Rescheduled But Still a Success

Despite the rain and reschedule, HalloVISTA 2018 was a success again! This yearly family-friendly event is geared towards NVC students, faculty and staff, as well as the surrounding community. We have estimated that 600 people visited the campus along with about 100 volunteers.

Several college departments, programs and organizations gave their time to help with the event. Phi Theta Kappa hosted HalloVISTA Hall Trick-or-Treating and their members collected more than 200 bags of candy to hand out, decorated the hallway, and volunteered at the event. Other programs participating included Biology, AMT/Nanotechnology, Recruitment, Academic Standards, Project Dem, Staff Senate, the Library, and the NVC Repertory Dance Ensemble, who performed two sets. We were kept safe by College Risk Management Coordinator Garvin Dansby, and the Alamo Colleges District Police, who volunteered to work overtime shifts.

HalloVISTA 2018 had some new additions to the event, such as the 20’ x 14’ LED screen and the Mobile Escape Room, which were both big hits. As with every year, the petting zoo, bounce houses, haunted house, and all the kids’ crafts and activities drew in both the children and adults. The biggest disappointment was that the fireworks company could not do the show that day, but we are working on a future time to have them at the college.

Happily, we were surprised by the number of participants in the costume contest since the rescheduled event happened the weekend after Halloween. We had at least 20 contestants in both the 12 and under category and adult costume contest. The costumes were amazing the judges had a hard time making their final decisions!

The NVC Office of Community and Public Relations would like to say “THANK YOU!” to all the volunteers, programs and departments that helped make HalloVISTA 2018 an awesome event! Without all of you, we couldn’t have shown all the individuals and families that visited our college what a great campus and group of employees and students we have here!
