Financial Aid Available for Continuing Education Students

Many Northwest Vista College students in continuing education programs are eligible for some much-needed financial aid dollars.

Thanks to the Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG) for Continuing Education, NVC has earmarked up to $250,000 for students, who don’t have a bachelors degree, to cover tuition and fees for career or occupation-related courses.

Eva Gaitan of the NVC Financial Aid office said all sister colleges received individual allocations to award to CE students. She added financial aid will pay a percentage of the total cost of the CE program, and in some instances, students will be required to pay a percentage out of pocket depending on the cost of the program and students’ eligibility.

NVC Continuing Education Program Manager Christine Maddox said non-reimbursable programs, such as English as a Second Language, are not eligible for the TPEG grant, but there are many CE open enrollment programs that are eligible for TPEG funding, including:

  • Medical Billing and Coding
  • Real Estate
  • Medical Front Office
  • QuickBooks
  • Office Support Assistant
  • Library Technician

Additionally, Christine says some academic programs are eligible.

“We can mirror or co-list almost any workforce academic class for CE students,” she added. “CE students enroll in the CE class but attend the same class with the academic students.”

Several academic programs that have approved CE certificates are:

  • CCNA
  • CCNP
  • Cyber First Responders
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Computer Forensics
  • Community Health Worker
  • Personal Fitness
  • Pharmacy Technology
  • MCSE: Server Infrastructure
