Examining Tough Topics Through Films

Opening the door to tough topics was the goal of a new faculty-led film series this past November for Native American Heritage Month.

Coordinated by NVC History faculty Stefania Wasniewski, the audience viewed the 1992 documentary “Incident at Oglala.”

The film covers the murder of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation and is narrated by actor Robert Redford. The film addressed the relationship between Pine Ridge leadership and the government and how that brought about the American Indian Movement or AIM.

This film is the first in a series. Stefania hopes to help coordinate more of these films to promote DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice) initiatives and benefit student learning.

Stefania said, “The recent event showed the promise for amazing collaborations in the future!”
