Employee Giving Luncheon Honors NVC Employee’s Memory

While it’s only been about six months since Beverly Evans’ passing, her memory lives on through the Beverly Evans Memorial NVC Student Life Scholarship. At the annual Celebration of Giving luncheon for employee supporters of the NVC Cares …I Care Campaign, four of the first students to receive the scholarship shared their stories.

In front of nine of Beverly’s family members, the students expressed their gratitude and described how the scholarship is going to give them more time and make it a little easier for them to study and participate in co-curricular activities. Soon after Beverly’s death on March 12, 2017, the scholarship fund was set up to benefit NVC students who volunteer with community organizations or are involved in student organizations or activities. The first five students were each awarded $500 scholarships. Beverly was a longtime employee of the college in the President’s office, who exemplified joy. Read more about her here.

Megan T. Vergara, was one of the scholarship recipients at the luncheon, who never met Beverly but like Beverly is passionate about showing the NVC spirit. Megan was part of the Taft High School Sidekick Pep Squad. In addition to performing on the Highstepper Dance Team in high school, she was part of the NVC CATS Crew in 2016 and was accepted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in early 2017.

This year’s campaign runs from  Aug. 21 through Oct. 16 and will have several activities and events to help promote the event and encourage our NVC family to think about participating and giving. NVC President Dr. Ric Baser is serving as overall campaign chair for the Alamo Colleges District.

The Celebration of Giving event is presented by the NVC Community Development Department and is held annually to recognize employee donors to the previous year’s campaign. To donate to Beverly’s scholarship or another fund, go here http://giveuw.org/alamo
