[image 1]Employees were treated to a celebration breakfast on Sept. 26 to thank them for giving to the Employee Giving Campaign last year that brought in $39,067 due to their efforts.
This generosity translated into hundreds of scholarships for students and community programs. The campaign this year started on Sept. 22 and continues through Oct. 31. Employees can give in three areas to United Way programs, theFund for the Arts or to Alamo Colleges Foundation and NVC scholarships and programs. Some of the scholarships specific to NVC are the Jackie Claunch Legacy Scholarship, the Business Scholarship for Business Students and the NVC Vista Dash for Dollars scholarship. To see the full list of scholarships, see the instructions below.
[image 2]Nadia Alshaer, a student at NVC, told the breakfast crowd that while she hasn't applied for a scholarship yet, it's on her to-do list. She said it's very hard for her family of five kids to pay for college for everyone. Retired NVC employee Christine Crowley also reiterated the same. She said one of the reasons why she gives every year is because her father, who came from Ireland, also had a difficult time getting money for college because he too came from a large family. She challenged NVC employees to donate; and for every person who donates, she will donate $10 per person. She also pledged to help Dennis Gittinger's scholarship fund to help it get endowed.
[image 3]Anyone who donates before Oct. 10 will be eligible to take part in a drawing for purple NVC lawn chairs and other items. For more information, contact Lynne Dean, director of NVC Institutional Advancement, at 486-4135 or email [email protected].
