Employee Development Day: Call for Proposals

College Commitments:  Northwest Vista College creates opportunities for success by offering quality academic, technical and life-long learning experiences to its diverse communities in a collaborative, student-centered, data-informed and shared leadership environment.

Northwest Vista College is working towards a better Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive environment for both employees and students. In 2020, NVC leadership made DEI initiatives a priority and moved to make a:

As a Hispanic-serving community college, NVC is committed to professional development as a way to facilitate success for all students.  Our focus is on building our knowledge and skills to foster diverse, equitable, and inclusive thoughts and practices in order to ensure that we are truly serving our students and community.  The goal of this year’s program is to provide interesting, informative, and educational experiences that align with our mission, that are grounded in data and best practices, and that enrich our institutional culture as an HSI.

The EDD team is seeking presenters to address the following areas: 1) Mission and Strategy, 2) Data and Practice, and 3) Institutional Culture. 

Deadline to submit proposals is September 30.

Tracks (Description and Examples):

  1. Mission and Strategy – As an open access Hispanic Serving Institution, NVC provides a comprehensive curriculum in a student-centered environment. NVC also serves an economic development function in the community it serves.
    1. Change – from serving to thriving
    2. Understanding what it means to be Hispanic Serving
    3. Clearly articulating our commitment to the community college mission and the NVC mission with the intent to serve our community
    4. Review of NVC Touchstones
    5. Alignment of Strategic Plan and Resources

  1. Data and Practice – Responsiveness to community needs requires maintaining working knowledge of best practices in your professional field. Staff and faculty strive to use respected current data to inform their instruction and service to students.

  1. Institutional Culture – Community Colleges are complex social organizations with distinctive cultures. Fostering a culture of belongingness and care wherein staff, faculty, and students feel seen, connected and supported is integral to the success of our institution.
