Since 2009, Deborah Font has run the NVC Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Lab and coordinated campus-wide writing assessments. A large part of her new role as coordinator of Measurement and Evaluation will be leading NVC’s student learning outcomes assessment.
Deb is looking forward to making the amazing work we do every day more visible to the college’s accrediting and regulatory agencies and to helping make our assessments more meaningful for the departments, programs, units, faculty, and staff who serve our students. Her personal goal in this position is to ensure the assessments of our diverse student body are authentic and equitable.
Deb was born and raised in San Antonio. She started her academic journey as a student and work-study at San Antonio College, where she enrolled in a 2+2 program with St. Mary’s University. In 2000, she earned a BA in English and Philosophy from St. Mary’s and went on to graduate school at Purdue University. At Purdue she completed an MA in Rhetoric & Composition and started a PhD program, but left the university before completing her dissertation. After years of working at NVC, she finally took a lesson from her own students that it’s never too late to finish a degree. Last year she re-enrolled at Purdue and is currently working toward finishing her PhD.
In her spare time, Deb hangs out with her family, plays video games, and works on research investigating the sustainability of accreditor-mandated student learning initiatives.
