Congratulations to Dr. Jackie Claunch, former Northwest Vista College president, for being honored as the 2021 Golden Rule Educator at Compassionate SA’s 16th annual Blessing of the Peacemakers virtual event on Jan. 31.
Last summer, nine NVC faculty and staff participated in Compassionate Integrity Training (CIT) that was in partnership with the City of San Antonio, Compassion SA, local institutions of higher education, and almost all the local school districts.
CIT was an intensive five-week training that cultivated compassion and human values to help give educators new skills to process challenging new life lessons while leveraging and navigating to a new, better normal.
“Compassionistas” have committed to meet monthly for a year after the course. Jackie and Migdalia Garcia of NVC’s Peace Studies and Community Engagement, facilitate the monthly meetings with the NVC group to reflect/discuss the learning that transpired, to apply the principles into practice, and to stay in connection with each other.
Going forward (from January-May), Migdalia said they are merging the NVC Compassionista group to include employees from its sister colleges who participated and two additional facilitators, Dhawn Martin from the SOL center; and Cynthia Brown from Haven for Hope.
Along with Jackie and Migdalia, Debi Gaitan, Russ Frohardt, Julie Moore-Felux, Janie Scott, Diana Bradford, Lisa McGoldrick, Jon Rosenberg, Dain Wood, and Kim Linsenbardt from NVC took part in last summer’s training.
