On Monday, Nov. 14, Northwest Vista College Math faculty, Professor Heidi Hunt-Ruiz, presented the “Math Path Game” to the Presidents and Vice Chancellors team at the district office. Everybody from the chancellor to college presidents enjoyed learning the game.
As part of NVC’s Project Math Paths, the Math Path Game is designed to introduce our math model to the NVC family and help everybody understand what the NVC Math department can offer. Often times, students get lost on which math classes to take, as well as which level to start from.
More important, students are educated with the math sequence in terms of what’s next after completing one particular math course from the developmental level. The goal is to help students realize that math is actually a friendly tool to help them grow stronger in their academic journey.
By playing the game, students learn about different options in math courses based on their pre-major. The game was created by the NVC Math & Engineering Department and supported by the Title V grant, led by Anna Harwin of the math faculty. If you are interested in learning more about the game, please feel free to contact Heidi.
