The Broadway musical “Cabaret,” was awarded the People's Choice Award for favorite production at the 22nd Annual Alama Theatre Arts Council Awards gala.
The presentation was made at San Antonio's Empire Theatre on Oct. 14. An additional award went to “Cabaret” designer Yvette Oakes Crabtree for Excellence in Costume Design. “Cabaret” was a joint production by NVC Drama and the Allegro Stage Company and was produced last semester at the Palmetto Center for the Arts.
Representing NVC and “Cabaret” at the event were NVC faculty members Tim Hedgepeth (Cabaret director), Mellissa Marlowe (producer) and Wendy Ellis (Choreographer). Leading actor and student Trevor Chauvin was also there along with NVC President Jackie Claunch and Vinnie Bradford, the chair of Fine and Performing Arts and Kinesiology.
NVC Drama and Allegro will collaborate again in the spring of 2013 for a new production of the popular Broadway musical farce “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
NVC Drama is currently producing the comedy “Hay Fever,” directed by Tim Hedgepeth and starring Mellissa Marlowe, which opens in the Black Box on Nov. 8. For more information on drama productions at NVC, call 210-486-4527.
