January is a wonderful time to reengage with compassion and justice through a wide variety of happenings across San Antonio.
One such event is the Blessing of the Peacemakers which marks the beginning of the Season of Nonviolence and the closing of Dreamweek. At each blessing, people come together to celebrate through story, community ritual, and recognition of the Peace Laureates. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other.
Peace Laureates are selected because they are a local voice of wisdom and experience that speaks for peace and justice in San Antonio. This year, we recognize Ramon Vasquez y Sanchez and Ramon J. Vasquez, a father and son, for their tireless work, legacy, and resounding impact on our community.
The event marks the 64-day Season for Nonviolence, a campaign that demonstrates that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower lives and communities. Inspired in 1998 by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, the purpose is to come together to honor these Peacemakers and celebrate the pursuit of a more just and peaceful community.
The Blessing will take place on January 28, at 3 p.m. at Northwest Vista College – Palmetto Center for the Arts. Please RSVP here.
