Attending Vista Events and Commencement in Support of Student Belonging

What a great week we recently had with many student and employee celebrations!

As I mentioned during Friday’s All College Meeting and our Great Places to Work Celebration, I believe that May is the best month of the year for a college president. 

This is my first year as a college president and I have enjoyed every moment since I joined Vista ten months ago. The last few weeks have been even more special as I have handed award certificates and numerous end-of-the term recognitions. I have attended student presentations on improving NVC experience, watched student film screenings, and visited with our National Cyber League champs (NVC’s Cybersecurity Club), just to name a few.

I look forward to my first NVC Commencement and am thrilled to shake hands with students that will soon call Vista their alma mater.  I can’t imagine the pride and joy you must be feeling having to watch them grow over the past few years and strengthen in their resolve. Thank you for challenging them and supporting their dreams! 

We have had an incredible academic year together and I appreciate all your hard work and dedication in creating a sense of belonging at Vista for each other and our wonderful students as well as promoting student pathways to mobility and success!

During both our All College Meeting and Moving Our Mission Foreword sessions on Friday, our two student panels told us how grateful they are for the support they receive from NVC faculty and staff. They notice the extra help we provide to guide them and support them in their journey. It’s what springs them to action and what keeps them going.

Some of these students who will be graduating are undoubtedly eager to attend Commencement, but some may be hesitant to do so if their family or friends cannot attend. We can be there for them and assert their sense of belonging. Our Vista family should see them through the entire process, culminating in the excitement of crossing the stage.
