Spirit of Giving

In every team and department at Northwest Vista College, there are always great stories to tell that show faculty and staff going above and beyond.

While it’s hard to capture every story, we hope to periodically share in this space some of the major accomplishments or projects that are taking place. Members of the executive team will write about important topics that they feel NVC employees should be made aware of.

Let us know about the positive things your area is doing to help students or improve processes by contacting myself or NVC Marketing & Strategic Communications (formerly PR).

In the spirit of giving for this holiday season, I would like to highlight an opportunity for the NVC family to show that “NVC Cares”…

An “Angel Tree” has been set up in Cypress Campus Center to benefit the residents of the San Antonio State Supported Living Center. The residents of the center are challenged with intellectual and developmental disabilities and depend on donations to supplement events such as outings to parks, lunch at “McDonalds”, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, and parties that state funding does not cover.

NVC employee, Betty Cunningham serves on the board of the San Antonio State Supported Living Center and with the help of NVC students and employees, has provided hundreds of gifts to the residents over the years by setting up an “Angel Tree” at NVC.

The tree is located near financial aid in CCC and each angel has a desired gift that a resident of the center has chosen.  If you would like to sponsor one of the angels, feel free to come by CCC and select an angel off the tree. Gifts and donations will be collected at the Veterans Center in CCC 110 until Dec. 17. If you would like to purchase a generic gift rather than select an angel, here are some ideas: arts and craft materials, backpacks, hand and body lotions, clothing (hoodies, shirts, pj’s, etc.-male and female sizes M, L, XL), CD’s, portable DVD players, and radios.  If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact Betty at ecunningham@alamo.edu.

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the NVC chapter of PTK invites everyone to enjoy free hot chocolate, chili, and cookies beginning at 10 am. We are excited to offer a quick snack and study break for all of our students preparing for final exams.

As we wrap up another successful semester at NVC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our NVC faculty, staff, and administration for continuing to provide opportunities for success for all of our students.  I hope each member of our NVC community has a wonderful holiday break!
