At the May 10 Bragging Breakfast, Northwest Vista College’s Vice President for College Services Erin Sherman, spoke about our touchstone of caring by volunteering to help students build their business leaders skills.
The Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) that Erin has been a part of for 20 years, will hold its 2019 National Leadership Conference in San Antonio this summer. It’s expected that 14,000 students from across the nation will be attending, learning and competing in various categories to showcase their business leadership skills.
This provides a great opportunity for Northwest Vista College faculty and staff to expand community service beyond our campus to the national level, without leaving San Antonio. There is a need for 1,000 judges. By becoming a judge, you will learn valuable skills that you can share with NVC students and young people in your family and encourage them to become a part of this prestigious and valuable organization.
Volunteering and serving community are part of our 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, which calls for NVC employees to create a culture of Care, Achievement and Distinction. Having a strong NVC presence at a national conference that supports student achievement aligns well with our strategic objectives. Judges will receivecomplimentary food and parking. Other opportunities include becoming a sponsor, presenting a workshop, or exhibiting.
This outreach effort has been approved by NVC Cabinet. It means that you can serve as a judge during regularly scheduled work hours if your supervisor agrees that your service will not cause undue burden to the work unit and maintain proper office coverage. Serving NVC students and programs is always a priority.
Feel free to share this flyer with colleagues in your work area as well as family and friends. To volunteer, visit the Judges Resource Center. Help students become creative, learn to lead and inspire others!
