If you haven't signed up for Canvas training, there's still time before Blackboard goes away by the end of the year.
So far, 538 NVC faculty have signed up for Canvas training. About half of those have completed it, and the rest will be completing it soon, according to Laura Lawrence of Distance Learning.
She added the remaining 200-plus need to sign up as soon as possible – regardless if they are a full-time instructor or adjunct – as training is required by the Alamo Colleges vice chancellor for Academic Success and the NVC vice president of Academics. Additionally, all Canvas training and course migrations from Blackboard must be completed by the end of the fall 2012 semester.
To date, Laura added feedback on Canvas training and on the Canvas Learning Management System has been overwhelmingly positive from both faculty and students.
“I like that the training is online and could be done at your own pace,” said an instructor about the training.
“I previously thought this is only for online courses, but it can be very useful for regular face-to-face courses,” said an instructor about the software.
For those of you who would like to receive a bit more training, Estelita Young, regional director at Instructure, which designed Canvas, will do a lunch and learn on Friday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northeast Lakeview College.
She will provide updates on Canvas and other Alamo Colleges faculty who are currently using Canvas, such as Scott Walker of NVC, will do a session of using video in courses.
To sign up for the Oct. 26 event, go to AlamoLearn, which can be accessed through ACES, Employee tab and then search for Canvas: Regional event.
