Improving Ourselves Through SACSCOC Recommendations

La reVistaThank you to all who attended the Northwest Vista College Town Hall Meeting and your contribution during this open forum dialogue regarding NVC’s response to the Special Committee Recommendations for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges or SACSCOC – our accrediting organization.

The issues addressed today are imperative for the continued growth and success of our college, and critical for the success of NVC students.

NVC’s response to the SACSCOC Special Committee Recommendations addresses the following:

  • 4.4 Acceptance of Academic Credit. – (Transcript)
  • 4.5 Academic Policies. – Transfer of Credit
  • 4.5 Academic Policies – (GPA Calculation)
  • 4.10 Responsibility for Curriculum
  • 13.4b Corporate Structure (Hiring Authority)
  • 13.4b Corporate Structure (Representation as a Separately Accredited Institution)
  • 7 Title IV program responsibilities

The response NVC has provided to these seven recommendations will guide us in our continued progress.  Be assured that we will be working collaboratively on executing the agreements, policy changes, and language structure that have provided clarification to our initial report.

While the process we undertake towards SACSCOC reaffirmation of our accreditation occurs every 10 years and includes the fifth-year interim report, our accountability towards our students, families, community members, employers, donors, taxpayers, legislators, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and other entities occurs every single day. That is precisely why everyone’s input is critical, particularly those who work directly with students and witness their struggles and progress toward completion. Your questions, comments and suggestions contribute to how we work with each other, our students and our many partners.

Again, thank you for your continued hard work and dedication as we navigate through the re-affirmation of accreditation process together.
