Northwest Vista College has a lot to celebrate this summer: commencement, being an Aspen finalist, YMCA summer camps, and a new Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cloud Computing.
Students can now register for the new bachelor’s degree program in a fast-growing IT field: Cloud Computing. Cloud computing delivers computing services—including servers, storage, databases, networking, and software—over the Internet or “the cloud.” It’s estimated that Cloud Computing is a more than $600 billion industry, with many businesses moving portions of their business into the cloud. Examples of Cloud Computing are employees using Zoom’s videoconferencing platform or an intranet platform, such as SharePoint.
NVC has hosted two information sessions in the last few months to help potential students learn more about the program. We also want our NVC employees to be our brand ambassadors for this new program. Here’s some information about this new bachelor’s degree:
The Cloud Computing industry is growing exponentially and is projected to exceed $600 billion by 2024.
NVC will award credit for prior learning, certifications, and/or work experience.
The NVC program requires 120 semester credit hours and is 100% online and VA-friendly.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that overall employment in IT-related fields will grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2022 to 2032.
The earning potential for this field is typically higher than that of most careers, with the potential to earn up to six-figure salaries after several years of experience.
Students take ten upper-level courses in the program and complete the remaining core curriculum.
Students can earn nine micro-credentials (digital badges) by successfully completing the bachelor’s degree program. Micro-credentials are short, competency-based recognition that shows mastery in a particular area.
NVC has a partnership with Amazon, which is the largest cloud services provider in the world.
Students can earn five Amazon Web Services Certifications, including an AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect, and the AWS Data Analytics Specialty.
Students can transfer into the program from within one of Alamo College’s, other colleges or from a non-IT-related program.
