The Northwest Vista College Admissions Office hosted its fourth annual Parent/Support Person Session on March 2 in the Palmetto Center for the Arts. The theater was filled with team members who were ready to provide support for parents, support persons, and prospective NVC students.
Parents/support persons attended this year’s event with lots of questions on how to assist their future student. Parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, and aunts/uncles took part in the session to learn about how to help their student through the admissions process. The event began with a welcome from NVC President Dr. Amy Bosley, an opportunity to meet NVC certified enrollment coaches, an admissions presentation (offered in English and Spanish), and concluded with opportunities to visit with the Financial Aid Office or the Vista Central lab for admissions assistance.
This event began in the fall of 2020 as an opportunity for parents to support their students during the pandemic. Since 2020, we have seen the event grow each year from the 17 parents who attended virtually to seeing over 130 families step foot onto campus in 2024.
NVC has focused on utilizing a family-oriented approach to onboarding students and our attendance at these events reflects the need of our community. Here are a few statistics from our previous events:
Full Academic Year Registration (FAYR) begin in 2023.
In 2023, 101 families attended the parent session. Of those that attended, 92% of those students went on to attend a New Student Orientation (NSO) and registered for the fall term.
The 93 students who attended NSO, 41% registered for two terms (fall and spring) and 10% registered for the Full Academic Year or fall, spring and summer.
