Dr. Stacey Johnson has taken on the role as interim vice president for Academic Success and will help launch Northwest Vista College’s first baccalaureate degree. She brings 40 years of direct instructional administrative experience in higher education. She will be working with the academic deans as well as chairs and faculty to further enhance student success.
Prior to NVC, Dr. Johnson served as president of East and Winter Park campuses at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida. She championed the work of faculty and staff at both campuses, impacting nearly 24,000 students.
Dr. Johnson has deep roots in San Antonio and with the Alamo Colleges and served as vice president of Academic Affairs at Palo Alto College as well as dean of arts, humanities, and social sciences. She led instrumental academic initiatives at Palo Alto and within Alamo Colleges District.

I am confident that her extensive knowledge and expertise as both a community college president and a vice president within the Alamo Colleges District will guide and support Northwest Vista College over the next six months in preparation for a level change with SACSCOC and the launch of NVC’s first baccalaureate degree.”
Dr. Johnson’s other achievements include Olympic fencing. She is the recipient of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award as well as a Congressional Gold Medal. She began fencing at age 11 and five years later, secured a spot on an international team, competing in Argentina, Turkey, and Mexico City. Years later, she served on the United States Olympic Committee Board of Directors and was the first woman to hold a four-year term as president of United States Fencing.
Dr. Johnson founded the “Dreams for Youth” of the San Antonio Sports Foundation which served over 100,000 children and earned a $1 million grant from the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Among many awards and recognitions, Dr. Johnson was inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame and the Institute for International Sport.
Dr. Johnson holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
