NVC HalloVISTA 2023 Attracts Kids of All Ages

Northwest Vista College held its annual lakeside Halloween event, HalloVISTA, on Friday, Oct. 20 with more visitors than in past years.

This year’s event kicked off with a student-choreographed performance by the NVC Repertory Dance Ensemble and included college program exhibitions, vendors, a 27-foot-tall inflatable slide, “shark” bull ride, mobile escape room, carnival games, costume and trivia contests, kids’ crafts, corn hole, trick-or-treating, and many “spooky” decorations around campus for photo-taking.

New this year, the Costume Parade was a long line of all adults and children who had dressed up in costumes for the night. The best dressed were chosen by roaming costume judges to participate in the final contest, with 24 great costumes to choose from. Also new, the trivia contest drew in 59 sets of players and the questions provided information about NVC and our programs, including the new Bachelor of Applied Science in Cloud Computing.

Free pumpkins, crafts, trick-or-treating candy and carnival prizes ran out just in time for the lakeside viewing of Monster House, which ended the night. Even NVC Staff Senate sold out of pickles and drinks during the busy night.

HalloVISTA is an event to bring our community to meet our students and employees, receive college information, and see our beautiful campus all while having Halloween fun. This also provides a chance for students and employees to bring their families to a campus event.

“I am so glad we were able to attend HalloVISTA this year! My friends and family stayed for hours enjoying the beautiful campus along with the many FREE and FUN activities. We can’t wait for next year!” said Naomi Gordon, an NVC employee.

“HalloVISTA was a blast! I really enjoyed meeting the dozens of kids, students, and families who stopped by the Anthropology table and had fun learning about the different hominin skulls and Paleolithic tools we had on display,” said Adam O. Aguirre, associate professor and NVC Anthropology discipline coordinator.

As always, this event would not be possible without all the employee and student volunteers who worked hard to create an exciting and enjoyable experience for our visitors. A special thanks goes out the student organizations that helped with set-up, clean-up, and everything in between.
