Dear NVC family,
The Northwest Vista College (NVC) presidential search committee of cross-college representatives and external partners have been working diligently to review qualified candidates to serve as the third president of NVC, and we look forward to engaging with you in the process over the next few months. The search process that began in early summer 2022 has concluded, and a new search will begin in spring 2023 with the goal of selecting a sole finalist by summer 2023.
In the interim, the three NVC vice presidents have been working together to share the role of acting president. Effective Oct. 3, 2022, Debi Gaitan will assume the role of interim president. As interim president, Ms. Gaitan will have full authority on matters pertaining to Northwest Vista College.
During Ms. Gaitan’s years at NVC, she has led NVC through numerous initiatives that have earned the college state and national accolades including AlamoADVISE, a Certified Advisor and Enrollment Coach model that has contributed to the tripling of NVC’s graduation rates. She was also instrumental in the creation of Vista Central, NVC’s one-stop center for new students as well as the Student Advocacy and Resource Center which provides support to students who have food and housing insecurities.
Ms. Gaitan serves in a leadership role for the Alamo Colleges District Malcolm Baldrige Quality initiatives and guided NVC through the 2018 national site visit and subsequent award. She was the co-lead and now champions the work of NVC’s Strategic Enrollment Planning team to increase enrollment, retention, persistence, degree completion, and transition to a university or workforce.
On behalf of myself, the Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees, and the entire Alamo Colleges family, we would like to thank Ms. Gaitan for her service to NVC and for stepping into this leadership role.
In service,
Dr. Mike Flores, Chancellor
