Welcome new Northwest Vista College English faculty Samantha Raymond.
Prior to coming to NVC, she was the assistant manager at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy in Alamo Ranch. She says she absolutely loved that job, because she loves reading comics and talking to people about comics. Nearly 15 years of her career experience has been in some form of retail so turning that into teaching felt really easy in the sense that she’s passionate about something, it’s really easy to get other people passionate about that thing.
She’s originally from San Antonio, and has lived here for the majority of her life, except when she lived in San Marcos during her undergrad. Samantha initially went to St. Philip’s for Culinary Arts before deciding that English was her true passion.
She actually joined the Wildcat family in 2009 when she transferred to and graduated from Northwest Vista. She says “if there was ever a cheerleader for going to community college first, I’m your gal. I proceeded straight to Texas State to receive my BA in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis. I waited four years after graduating with my BA to start my Masters program, which I received from Southern New Hampshire University. I received an MA in English and Creative Writing.”
At NVC, her duties will be to usher in new critical thinkers and arguers, teaching for the English Department. As someone who also can’t sit still, she takes part in several committees that are aimed at making our college the best it can be.
Samantha said in her free time, she’s busy co-creating two comics with her artistic partner who lives in Australia, or watching documentaries with my spouse.
