From Dr. Lisa McGoldrick
Director of Community Collaborations
There are more than 16,246 living alumni of Northwest Vista College in multiple countries around the world. Join this powerful network as a NVC Wildcats Alumni member and reconnect with the place you once called home. It’s the next best thing to being here!
Since 1995, NVC leaders have envisioned the impact of our alumni around San Antonio and the world. In his inaugural address, the college’s president, Dr. Ric N. Baser, described “individual scholars, who by their excellence will advance the sciences they pursue and the society where they dwell.” And, over the past 26 years, our graduates have more than lived up to that vision. Today, our alumni community, 16,246 -strong, is advancing excellence around the world.
Our NVC Alumni Association is in its infancy; however, over time, we plan to evolve to meet the needs of a larger and vastly more diverse population, constantly building new opportunities for connections among our alumni and with NVC itself. NVC Alumni Memberships will power the programs at NVC, enhance the student experience, and keep alumni connected. In Alumni Relations, our response to this growth is deliberate and thoughtful, recognizing the indispensable role alumni play within our institution’s community. We plan to leverage new technologies to reach and connect graduates across San Antonio and the globe. We are in the process of building programs that allow likeminded alumni to gather around industries, identities, or interests. Furthermore, we are currently developing new programs around professional growth, serving the career-focused needs of our alumni, and allowing them to connect with current students in new, innovative ways.
Creating this Alumni Strategic Plan has given us a chance to step back and consider our work in new ways. We enlisted internal experts to undertake our first truly institutionally wide planning process around alumni, ensuring cross-college representation. The process that led to our Year 1 Strategic Plan thorough a 21-person committee, while reinforcing what has always driven our work – an abiding commitment to the NVC family. This plan does not exist in a vacuum. We are guided by the mission and values of our college, and our work echoes tenets expressed in key Alamo Colleges District (ACD) documents, including the ACD’s KPIs, and NVC’s Strategic Plan, Care, Achievement, Distinction (CAD). The plan will feed into a broader strategic planning process within ACD and shifts in institutional priorities may require adjustments to our own focus. We are confident that this plan will help advance our shared vision over the next five years, building connections across our institution and extraordinary alumni community.
We are grateful for the work of dozens of people who contributed to the creation of this plan, and for the NVC alumni community – a group that will advance excellence throughout our Institution. If you are an alumnus and would like to join, please let me know at l[email protected]
