Taking Command

Northwest Vista College’s Informational Technology & Communication Team played a critical role in getting employees and students ready to work and learn in a remote environment.

With their partnership with the NVC Events Management team, they were able to set up a “command central” in the round welcome center of Manzanillo Hall early last week to help staff, faculty and students with their emergency computer needs.

The command center helped students and employees easily check out technology equipment with a goal of making their transition to remote learners and workers easier.

NVC IT Director Felix Salinas said as of Friday morning, student and employee visit/check out count was well over 200.

Felix added the NVC IT and College Services staff assisted employees with paperwork, troubleshoot laptops and helped with online access issues. All this while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all with plenty of hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, gloves and social distancing.

Additionally, in the last week and a half, their phones have been ringing nonstop with employees or students needing technology help. Felix said over 300 plus calls have come in from March 22 and they were expecting to hit over 400 by end of last Friday.

Felix added “NVC IT has risen to the challenge to support our student’s and employee’s success.”
