Students Save Up to $1,188 through Pre-nursing Cohort at NVC

To alleviate statewide nursing shortages, Northwest Vista College launched a brand new accelerated Pre-Nursing Cohort, which will assist students who are preparing for acceptance into professional nursing programs.

Those who join this special cohort at Northwest Vista College will earn an associate of science degree in 24 months and save up to $1,188. The cohort learning community includes automatic course enrollment, NVC Society of Aspiring Nurses (SAN) membership and exclusive academic support.

Students in this pilot program will have a personal faculty mentor, be invited to special events with guest speakers, nursing school tours, and belong to a group of students who are preparing for nursing school together.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the national job outlook for registered nurses will grow by 7% over the next 10 years, above the average growth rate for all occupations. BLS also estimates that the mean annual wage for registered nurses in the San Antonio-New Braunfels area is $72,410 and $109,550 for nurse practitioners. https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_41700.htm

Students in this program will take 60-61 credit-hours leading to an Associate of Science Degree that will prepare them for acceptance into professional nursing schools. Interested students can contact Cindy Magruder at cmagruder@alamo.edu for program information, application and interview by Jan. 8.
