Building Success Through Innovation and Creativity

La reVistaBeing a successful community college by today’s standards can be challenging. As a publicly funded institution, Northwest Vista College works with numerous entities to ensure accountability and progress.

NVC’s faculty and staff are well versed in- and adhere to federal and state laws and requirements to help students obtain financial aid and enroll, earn a degree or certificate and successfully transfer. NVC also follows the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). In preparation for the upcoming SACSCOC special committee visit, I was once again reminded about the unique way NVC faculty and staff create opportunities for our students.

NVC employees are able to successfully accomplish our mission and vision through our spirit of innovation and creativity. We have created independent processes and procedures that fulfill our strategic objectives. Our enrollment growth and degree completion outcomes are just two of the measures by which NVC ensures that it serves the needs of our population segments.

Another area where NVC spirit of innovation shines is with the grass-roots effort of Project Math Paths and Vista Central. These initiatives are progressing because of the creativity and dedication of our math faculty who partnered with other employees from across the college to establish, nurture and grow a college-wide support system for advising and completion. NVC’s math success rates show that students are taking the right math courses that will help them successfully earn a degree or certificate and lead them on a pathway to their chosen career.

NVC Quality Enhancement Plan — researched, designed and implemented by our faculty and staff — will improve students’ information literacy skills by helping them develop knowledge and skills to find, use, synthesize and evaluate information. NVC employees also work with community advisory teams, and the NVC Business Council to ensure NVC’s programs are marketable and relevant in the current and future job market.

I want to take this opportunity and thank you for your dedicated service and for allowing your spirit of innovation and creativity drive your everyday efforts in supporting our students. Each one of us contributes in our unique way. This spirit of passion and dedication has served us for over 20 years and, it’s what I believe, will make our college successful for years to come.
