October All College Meeting

[image 1]Interdisciplinary Programs had an eventful All College Meeting on Oct. 12.

Not only did they host the meeting with tasty breakfast tacos, but two of their staffers were honored. Julie Boerm of Dual Credit was nominated the NVC Employee of the Year and Migdalia Garcia of Service Learning was nominated Employee of the Month.

The Wildcat Spirit Award also went to employees of Interdisciplinary Programs. It was Migdalia and the dean of Interdisciplinary Programs, Mary Dixson, who led voting registration efforts on campus. Along with help from employees who became deputy registrars, 800 new voters were registered from NVC.

One more celebration was given at the meeting. The Resident & Reports Team of Student Success was recognized for winning the door decorating contest for Homecoming, which was the first week of October.

Prior to the celebrations, NVC President Jackie Claunch started the monthly meeting by wrapping up the Baldrige visit. A team of examiners from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award came to NVC to clarify and verify information in NVC’s Baldrige application. This is a coveted business award given by the federal government. NVC was only one out of 12 organizations to receive a site visit and the only educational institution to get a visit. Baldrige winners will be announced in late November.

[image 3]Rod Rubbo, president of theFund was at the meeting to talk about the need to fund arts programs in San Antonio. He said just a $1 a paycheck helps to keep many nonprofit arts organizations alive in the city. Also those employees who donate to theFund, ($60 for the year) become Fund card members, which gives them discounts to many local shows, without having to pay Ticketmaster fees.

In addition to theFund, employees can also donate to the Alamo Colleges Employee Giving Back campaign and specifically donate to NVC scholarships.

One way to support scholarships is by eating at Chili’s on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Ten percent of sales at the Chili’s restaurant on Culebra road and Loop 1604 will be donated to NVC scholarships.

Patrick Troy of the NVC Employee Giving Back Committee encouraged everyone to go to Chili’s for lunch, dinner, cocktails – better yet, if you can, just stay the whole day!
