NVC has Exciting Line Up of Youth Summer Camps

School is about to come to a close and do you know where you plan to put your kids this summer?

If you are still looking for stuff to do, make sure you check out the Northwest Vista College youth summer camps that run for 11 weeks from June 6 to Aug. 19

Each summer there is an exciting line up of weekly camps for kids that vary from dance, robotics, sports, culture and topics to keep young minds entertained.

Yvonne Haynes, NVC program manager, said this summer there are more variety of camps for middle and high school students than previous years. For instance, there will be a CSI-style type camp where middle school and high school students will work with real crime experts to figure out a mock crime.

A motion graphics and video animation camp was added to the line up to help young minds learn about digital media; and there will be three camps designed for dance team participants. One for beginners looking to try out for the team, a boot camp for those already on the team but want to enhance their techniques, and one for dance team officers seeking to increase their choreography and leadership skills. For those young ballers who love basketball, there will also be an intense basketball camp to help students improve their skills on the court.

“We try to do a new line up every summer and not repeat camps,” Yvonne said. “And all of our instructors are either certified ISD teachers in the local school districts, college faculty or industry experts.”

Camps are priced from $170 to $225 a week, and some of the camps will include a field trip off campus. Camp sessions begin at 8:30 and end at 4:30, however, an added benefit  for working parents is that they can leave their kids at the NVC camp as early as 7:30 am and pick them up as late as 5:30 pm for no additional charge. Many camps in the city offer only  half day sessions, leaving working parents scrambling to find transportation for their children.

Spots are filling up fast. To learn more about the summer camps and to register, go here: www.alamo.edu/nvc/youth
