NVC Cosmic Clay Night a Huge Success!

cosmicclayThe NVC Ceramics department hosted its first “Cosmic Clay Night” on Nov. 18 in the ceramics studio at the Palmetto Performing Arts Center from 6-9 pm.

Ceramics department faculty and staff mixed UV light reactive pigments into clay and installed black lights throughout the studio. The NVC community was invited to enjoy the opportunity to try their hand at throwing a vessel on the potter’s wheel, or creating a sculpture using glowing, luminescent clay in colors of yellow, pink, green, and blue.

Over 100 people attended the event and everyone had a great time experimenting with the luminescent clay. Former NVC students who are currently enrolled in ceramics at UTSA attended and assisted by giving demonstrations and staying late to help with clean up. The entire three hours was filled with wonder, joy, and fun! NVC students brought their friends and families to the event. The potter’s wheels were never left empty, and the room “hummed” with contentment and creativity!

The clay night will be offered again in the spring semester. Contact either Paul Northway (pnorthway@alamo.edu) or Diana Kersey (dkersey@alamo.edu) for further information.
