The second annual HalloVISTA event on Oct. 22 was a huge success and brought so many new faces to the campus for the first time. It’s estimated that more than 1,000 people attended the event.

The free Halloween event, hosted by NVC Public Relations, is not only for the Northwest Vista College community, but to introduce new people to the campus – to let them see beyond the trees. HalloVISTA had free trick-or-treating for kids, a haunted house and costume contests, a free showing of the classic movie, “Beetlejuice” and fireworks to cap off the eventing.

A BIG thank you to all employee and student volunteers who came in on a Saturday. A huge shout out also to the NVC PR staff who took on extra responsibilities and worked beyond their regular hours to make this event successful: Lisa McDaniel was the event coordinator, Tiffany Rico and Paul Vallejo oversaw the haunted house, Gerona Nylander helped with volunteers; and Shawn Harward, Renata Serafin and Melissa Monroe-Young helped with publicity, marketing and graphic design.

NVC PR work study students Jonathan Quesada, Bilal Zia, Maria Puente and Matthew Rodriguez also contributed to the event with their video and graphic design skills. Thanks also goes to Diane DeLaGarza and the NVC Staff Council for overseeing the trick-or-treating area and selling paletas.

While there are alwys things we can improve on for following years, here are three of the many comments we received on Facebook from the event:

“Haunted house was better than Fiesta Texas.”

“So fun! I can’t believe the production quality… This was top notch and so well organized.”

“Thank you so much! Had a wonderful time and that firework display was freaking awesome!”
