January 25, 2019 | NVC PR | Leave a comment Flourish + Collapse is the first spring exhibition at the Palmetto Center for the Arts at Northwest Vista College. Themes of nature and the environment unites the work of Adrienne Butler, Megan Miller and Ashley Nason. Imagery is collected and combined, deconstructed and recontextualized in their artwork. The artists employ printmaking, mixed media, collage and watercolor to bring their ideas to life on paper. Butler’s nonobjective, colorful watercolor images complement the abstract forms found in Miller’s collages. The plight to survive in a world of overconsumption and misuse of resources plays out in Ashley Nason’s prints. Flourish + Collapse is a collaborative curatorial effort between NVC faculty Rachael M Bower and St. Philip’s faculty Nicole Geary. Bower and Geary have worked together to bring an aesthetic variety of art inspired by a common theme to the walls of the Palmetto Center for the Arts. The Palmetto Center for the Arts Gallery hosts four yearly exhibits of professional emerging and established artists from San Antonio and beyond. Our gallery space is an opportunity to view contemporary art on the Northwest side. The Gallery is open for viewing Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am-9:45 pm & Friday 8 am-5 pm. Two of the artists, Nason and Butler, will give public lectures about their work in the Palmetto Gallery. Ashley Nason will give a public talk about her prints on Feb 6 at 12:30 pm and Adrienne Butler will speak about her drawings and watercolors on March 1 at 11 am. All are welcome to attend!
