Employee of the Month, Wildcat Spirt and Touchstone Awards

Employee of the Month

For the month of November, the winner of Employee of the Month goes to David Ardin from the IT department.

(What his peers say anonymously)

“David comes to work with respect for everyone that he comes across on a daily basis. His infectious smile and positive attitude help set the tone for the day. David’s willingness to go out of his way to help students with their technology needs whether it be in the classroom or on the phone is such a valuable asset to the college.

His calm demeanor and knowledge of technology is very much appreciated by the students. He is always looking to find solutions to whatever problem arises.”

Wildcat Spirt Award – Veronica Gonzalez

(From Malcolm Higgins)

“When deciding who to pass this award to, I thought about what this award is supposed to represent. What does it mean to have spirit? Then when I tried to think of someone who exhibits spirit in their work, one person immediately came to mind.

Veronica always comes to work with a great attitude, great mood, and overall great spirit. Because of this, they are a very nice person to work with.

Veronica brightens up rooms with her spirit. I don’t think I have ever caught Veronica not smiling. Her spirit makes her very deserving of this award. Congratulations Veronica!”

NVC Touchstone Champion Award – Caroline Kuyumcuoglu

“The word “CARE” is not only represented in the name of our Caring Touchstone Champion, it is present every day, in every one of her actions. Caring Caroline, Students First. During this entire COVID pandemic, she has been so helpful to her students. She made sure everyone was OK, connected them with the Advocacy Center if services were needed, AND followed up with each of her students to ensure they were able to access the services they needed.

Caring for the Developmental Education Students: Without financial support, such as release time or compensation, Caroline spearheaded writing not one, but two funded grants to support Developmental Education services for English and Math students. By implementing a successful Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Caroline and her team were able to create a manual, supervise students teaching students, and train faculty on incorporating SI tutors in their classrooms. This initiative helped, and continues to help, our underprepared students be successful in their academic pursuits.

Another outcome from Caroline’s THECB grant initiatives, is the creation of a manual for implementing Supplemental Instruction, which she has generously shared with other departments at NVC and our sister colleges. Never does she bring attention about her accomplishments, instead Caroline quietly and graciously shares her knowledge and expertise and Caring about her students. Caroline is highly deserving of the Caring Touchstone Award.”
