District Employee of the Month

Migdalia Garcia has served the NVC and greater San Antonio community as the NVC coordinator of Service Learning for almost seven years.

Prior to joining NVC, she was at St. Mary’s University, working with students in support of service, justice, and peace. During her tenure at NVC, over 20,000 students have participated in and outside the classroom in a diverse range of service programs including Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and the Seton Home.

One of her colleagues said her “attitude, effort, and heart make our NVC community a stronger part of the San Antonio community. She enriches our lives every day.”

Mig, as we affectionately call her, serves as the NVC International Committee liaison and a Peace and Conflict Studies Program member. Events sponsored by these groups strive to build cultural awareness and cross-cultural understanding and to instill in students the skills of peaceful conflict resolution. In her International Studies course, students learn to understand humanitarian issues from the perspective of the head, the hand and the heart.

Her favorite NVC value is community, one she supports throughout her work and life. Migdalia loves to spend time outdoors eating, reading or strolling. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from St. Mary’s University in Sociology, Communications and International Relations.
