Curiosity Breeds Strategy

In every team and department at Northwest Vista College, there are always great stories to tell that show faculty and staff going above and beyond.

While it’s hard to capture every story, we hope to periodically share in this space some of the major accomplishments or projects that are taking place. Members of the executive team will write about important topics that they feel NVC employees should be made aware of.

Let us know about the positive things your area is doing to help students or improve processes by contacting myself or NVC Public Relations.

Vice President of Student Success

There are many wonderful benefits of working at Northwest Vista College: the success and graduation of thousands of students, a healthy fall 2019 enrollment, the launch of AlamoPROMISE, the development of the Access, Advocacy, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Strategic Team, the opening of the WEN Student Resource Center and Food Pantry, and the soon to open Desert Willow Welcome Center and Veterans Center.

Developing ourselves to be a student-ready institution has been our focus and we have been cultivating a mood of curiosity that has led us to ask ourselves compelling and challenging questions about our values, mission, and vision. We are challenging ourselves to see things in a renewed and different way, to define our new era, and to pursue those things that we never imagined.

Student Success is extremely curious to learn what will happen when every team member focuses on three shared strategic outcomes:

  • Student Success will provide quality support for students during (1) Connection and (2) Entry to and through (3) Progress, (4) Completion, and (5) Transfer and/or transition.
  • Student Success will build capacity for a favorable impact on individuals historically underserved (i.e., underrepresented racial minorities in higher education, low-income, and/or low academic achievement).
  • Student Success employees will be engaged in the achievement of our strategic outcomes.

Our Strategic Plan, MyMAP, Guided Pathways, TouchPoints, initiatives of the Alamo Colleges chancellor, SACSCOC, and the Baldrige Quality Framework further cultivates our curiosity and spurs us to further enhance and improve our results.

The Student Success team took a break from their September 2019 Good Morning Student Success Strategic Planning session to take a group picture.
