Bragging Breakfast Oct. 2016

The October Bragging Breakfast hosted by NVC’s Academic Success area provided for a good opportunity to talk about the recent visit by a special site team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in late September.

Northwest Vista College President Dr. Ric Baser said his leadership team is anxiously awaiting the report from the SACS committee that visited NVC, San Antonio College and St. Philip’s colleges to assess each college’s autonomy from the Alamo Colleges district.

Dr. Baser said it seemed that the moment the SACS team arrived on the NVC campus, they could feel the difference that this campus and each of the campuses provide to the community. Following the receipt of the written report, Dr. Baser said his leadership team will begin writing a response to the seven recommendations. The NVC response will be submitted to the SACSCOC Review Board by mid-November. Here are the recommendations cited by the SACS special site team:

SACSCOC Recommendations:

3.4.4 (Transcript) Acceptance of Academic Credit.

3.4.5 (Transcript) Academic Policies.

3.4.5 (Transcript) GPA calculation (Academic Policies)

3.4.10 Responsibility for Curriculum

3.13.4b Corporate Structure (institution retains authority for the employment of their personnel)

3.13.4b Corporate Structure (the institution accurately represents itself as a separately accredited institution)

4.7 Title IV program responsibilities (Student Financial Aid)

Dr. Baser talked about some new neighbors that NVC is getting soon – General Motors Financial. According to KSAT.com, the company is constructing a new 100,000-square-foot facility, at 3302 N. Ellison Drive next to Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills. It’s expected to employ about 700 people.
