Be Someone’s Hero

Meet Alexia Chapa, NVC Student and Scholarship Recipient

Alexia Chapa is a pre-nursing major at NVC with a goal to become a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics. Alexia says her close-knit family has given her the strength and support to attend college. In a recent campaign event, Alexia shared more about herself and the difference she says scholarships have made in her life.

I am tremendously grateful for the scholarship I received. I have two little brothers who my parents also have to provide for and I know it’s not easy for them. But I also know they support me and will do anything to help me reach my goal of graduating college and becoming a nurse. Scholarships impact more than just the recipient. Thank you for helping me afford to go to classes and continue preparing to become a nurse. I now know that I have people who believe in me and want to help me fulfill my passion.

You can make a difference for students like Alexia, to families who receive food and meals from the San Antonio Food Bank and help from community agencies, to arts organizations who are part of theFund and work toward enriching the lives of young artists and our community. In the third week of the 2018 NVC Cares Campaign, NVC has taken the lead in the percentage of employees participating in the Alamo Colleges Employees Giving Back Campaign with 15%. Our closest competition is San Antonio College with 12% and Northeast Lakeview with 6%. Your gift or pledge, no matter what the amount, will help us reach our goal of 81% participation in the campaign. Together, we can do it!

Be Someone’s Hero

The NVC Cares. . . I Care campaign, our part of the Alamo Colleges campaign, provides a unique opportunity for each of us to have an impact on our students and our community. Because many of you have asked for additional information on NVC funds, you will find a brief description of NVC funds attached to this message.

How Can You Help?

If you would like to help other students through scholarships, you may want to consider a gift or pledge for an NVC scholarship or an Alamo Colleges scholarship through this year’s NVC Cares. . . I Care Campaign. You may also support United Way agencies and arts and cultural organizations through The ArtsFund.

Our goal is 81% participation – a lofty, but achievable goal.
