A Strong Start for AlamoPROMISE

In every team and department at Northwest Vista College, there are always great stories to tell that show faculty and staff going above and beyond.

While it’s hard to capture every story, we hope to periodically share in this space some of the major accomplishments or projects that are taking place. Members of the executive team will write about important topics that they feel NVC employees should be made aware of.

Let us know about the positive things your area is doing to help students or improve processes by contacting myself or NVC Public Relations.

The Northwest Vista Onboarding team kicked off AlamoPROMISE to a strong start this month. Northwest Vista will work with John Jay and Oliver Wendell Holmes High Schools as part of Phase I of the AlamoPROMISE program; the majority of Northside Independent School District to come online as part of Phase II implementation for fall of 2021.

With Oct. 2 marking the official launch of Promise, the NVC team has hit the ground running. In the past 11 days, they have already: conducted trainings for high school staff and administration, hosted pop-up launch events at the high schools, participated in financial aid nights at the high schools, attended a student assembly, presented at high school parent nights and provided a fan-fair event that enabled students to submit their “Save my Seat” form, one of the eligibility requirements for the Promise.

The team will continue to assist high school seniors throughout the school year to complete the Promise requirements:

  • Complete a Save Your Seat Form to participate in the program
  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or Texas Application for State Financial Aid and list at least one college of the Alamo Colleges District
  • Apply for admission to one of the District’s colleges through ApplyTexas
  • Complete registration at one of the district’s colleges
  • Participate in a Summer Bridge (if high school GPA is 79 or below) and Career Exploration Camp

It is an exciting start to the school year and we look forward to welcoming our AlamoPROMISE scholars to the fall of 2020!

What can we do to prepare for Promise?
